Ellen grew up in Sydney and completed her 4 year Physiotherapy degree at Sydney University in 1999. She has always had a keen interest in sports and started working with club level teams in her final year of university. Over the past decade she has relished every opportunity to assist teams from many sports including netball, basketball, BMX racing, hockey and all codes of football. Ellen has vast experience helping athletes of all ages, ranging from adolescents to veterans, both male and female and has extensive clinical experience, having worked in a number of highly regarded private practices.
In 2004, Ellen commenced a two year Masters of Sports Physiotherapy through Griffith University. She found this course extremely enjoyable and it challenged her to become a much more effective clinician. At the completion of her study, her passion for Sports Physiotherapy continued as she worked towards her ultimate goal of an Olympic physiotherapy appointment.
Ellen spent a few years from 2006 working at RAAF Base Williamtown where she developed a special interest in treating neck and back injuries sustained by fast jet pilots. This highly specialised population required bespoke treatment plans and fast, effective results. Ellen enjoyed this unique environment so much that in 2007 she accepted a commission as a Flight Lieutenant in the RAAF Specialist Reserves.
Ellen moved to Perth in 2008 and was given the opportunity to work with the Australian Men's Hockey Team, the Kookaburras. She travelled extensively with the team as their sole Physiotherapist under Head Coaches Ric Charlesworth and then Graeme Reid from 2009 to 2017, a privilege which afforded her immense job satisfaction. Ellen has helped the Kookaburras achieve Gold medals at the 2010 & 2014 World Cups, 2010 & 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2010-2013 Champions Trophies as well as a Bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games & a 6th placing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. As a volunteer Sports Physiotherapist for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Ellen worked with Team Bermuda, sharing in their success of a Gold medal in the Women’s Triathlon.
In 2024, Ellen was awarded the IOC Safeguarding Certificate and travelled to the Paris Olympic Games as Team Bermuda’s Welfare Officer. Here she oversaw the welfare of eight athletes across the disciplines of Athletics, Swimming, Rowing, Sailing and Triathlon.
Attending three Olympic Games, along with being on the sidelines to share in Commonwealth Games and World Cup victories, have been highlights of Ellen's career thus far. You will also find her Mini Labradoodle, Clancy, by her side in the clinic as he ensures the welfare of our patients and staff.
Ellen loves working in private practice, where she enjoys meeting people from all walks of life and assisting them with their injury recovery. Ellen has always nurtured the philosophy behind Physio Atelier and is excited to see this come to life.
